Slow Food NYC is just Crackers for Quackers! The 2016 Slow Food NYC Duck-Off! is happening at Jimmy's No. 43 on Sunday, March 20, 2016, from 1 pm to 3 pm!

Duck Confit, Peking Duck, Duck Tacos, Duck Ragu, Duck Tajine...is there another avian as culinarily versatile as the likes of Donald and Daffy? We don't think so. So, duck-up and TAKE THE CHALLENGE!

Chefs' FAQs (Frequently Asked Quacks)

What will be supplied to chefs?

  • Duck (choose from breasts, legs, livers, and/or whole ducks) from Hudson Valley Duck Farm to prepare their duckalicious creations! Chefs will order their duck, UP TO 15 LBS., by Friday, March 11 and pick up their duck on Wednesday, March 16 at the Hudson Valley Duck Farm stand at the Union Square Greenmarket in Manhattan.
  • Tables at Jimmy's to prepare (not cook) and serve samples.
  • Plates, forks, and napkins, as needed.

What must chefs supply?

  • All other ingredients (other than the duck) required for their ducky creations.
  • Enough of their duck dishes to serve 120 two oz. tasting portions.
  • Prepping/warming/serving equipment and utensils.

What else do chefs need to know?

  • Set-up and prep (not cooking) at Jimmy's will be from 11:30 am to 12:30 pm on Sunday, March 20; the tasting event will start at 1:00 pm and conclude at 3:00 pm; Judging will be at 3:00 pm.
  • Prizes will be awarded to the Judges' Choices and People's Choice.
  • First place winning recipes will be published in the on-line SFNYC newsletter, received by more than 10,000 Slow Food NYC supporters!

 

Are you ready to duck-off? If you have a dynamite duck dish to share with the world, contact Branka (bebranka.nyc@gmail.com) by Friday, March 4. Please include a few words of bio about you and the duck dish you plan to prepare, specifying what duck parts you need.

The DUCK-OFF! is sponsored by Slow Food NYC's good friends, Hudson Valley Duck Farm (hudsonvalleyduckfarm.com) and Jimmy's No.43 (jimmysno43.com).

DUCK-OFF! proceeds will support Slow Food NYC Urban Harvest, our program of good food education for New York City children on our summer, tuition-free, educational, urban farm in East New York, Brooklyn and at 16 schools around the City.
