The Truth and the Facts: Food Inequality on Long Island
A new Adelphi University report, The Truth and the Facts: Food Inequality on Long Island, provides the region's first comprehensive look at the day-to-day experiences of living in food insecurity, combining first-hand accounts with rigorous analysis to bring to light the multifaceted challenges and coping strategies of food insecure households. The study participants will provide their views on the findings and their daily experiences with food and there will also be an exhibit of photographs and captions created by community residents as part of the study. These images focus on the lived experience of food inequality.

Green Breakfast Club

Green Breakfast Club is a monthly networking event series that provides resource exchange to grow local green business communities. The club's event format includes a keynote speaker's startup success and failure story, and one hour of resource exchange where each attendee presents short 'gives' and 'asks'. This event meshes innovators in social and green enterprise, technology and Corporate Social Responsibility. Green Breakfast Club aims to become the resource hub for local green business communities worldwide.
The keynote speaker for April 12th's event speaker will be Dan Apfel, founder and Executive Director of the Responsible Endowments Coalition.

Food and Immigrant Life
This two day conference includes a panel of professors and journalists that will examine the complex relationships between food and migration. Food scarcity is not only at the root of much human displacement and migration—the food industry also offers immigrants an entry point into the U.S. economic system while simultaneously confining migrants to low wages and poor, if not unsafe, work conditions. At the same time, food allows immigrants to maintain their cultural identity. The conference will places issues of immigration and food service work in the context of a broader social justice agenda and explores the cultural role food plays in expressing cultural heritage.

Bill McKibbens, Guest Preacher at Riverside Church
Environmental author and activist, Bill McKibben, will be the guest preacher at Riverside Church. McKibben is the founder of 350.org, an international climate change campaign and is an active writer on the climate crisis and other environmental issues. His book, The End of Nature, was the first book to warn the general public about the threat of global warming.
